A new cannabis Producer Retail Store (PRS) license for farm-gate sales will become effective November 30, 2022, as announced by BC Liquor & Cannabis Regulation Branch policy directive 22-14 (PDF). The new retail cannabis license class enables federally-licensed cannabis producers to sell cannabis from a store at their production site.
The long-anticipated cannabis farm-gate sales license is welcome news to federally-licensed cultivators who have patiently waited since cannabis farm-gate licensing plans were first announced in September 2020.
Policy directive 22-14 also amended Cannabis Licensing Regulations (CLR) to allow cannabis retail and PRS store patrons to open cannabis packages in-store after purchase for inspection. The directive also changes the limit of cannabis plant sales to four per transaction.
Producers, including micro cultivators, standard cultivators, nurseries, and cultivators with a processing license are eligible. Read more about eligibility, application requirements and fees on the PRS License page. A PRS license handbook will be published on November 30, 2022.
