Private Liquor Store Marketing Ideas for Christmas 2025
November 19, 2025On October 26, 2025, the 8-week old BCGEU strike finally came to an end as the union and the BC government reached a tentative agreement. From November 6-13, members voted to ratify or reject the agreement. On November 13, the agreement was ratified. 89.3% of those who cast a ballot, voted in favour of ratification.
The BC Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) resumed operations on October 27 and distribution centres transitioned to 24/7 operations to catch-up. LDB began by shipping orders received before the September 22 shutdown. As of November 4, that backlog has been shipped and all new customer shipments scheduled in week 1 have also shipped. According to LDB, approximately 600,000 cases in 2,100 deliveries, were shipped in week 1.
What’s happening now?
- LDB deliveries have returned to standard scheduling, though customers should expect delays
- Non-stocked wholesales products (NSWP) are being fulfilled on schedule
- Vendors may book inbound appointments. There are currently no delays in appointment availability
- Inventory and product levels at distribution centres are at about 92%, though there is limited availability of Smirnoff Red Label, Crown Royal and Captain Morgan Spiced Rum
- Hospitality customers can replenish top selling spirits, liqueurs and import wines via 15 temporary BCLIQUOR Hospitality Hubs

While it’s early to say how long it will take LDB to catch up, it appears that the restart plan is moving along well. Industry insiders are hoping that getting back to normal doesn’t take as long as it did after the 2022 BCGEU strike. In an interview with the Vancouver Sun, Ian Tostenson, CEO of the BC Restaurant and Food Service Association, pointed out that it took several months after the 2022 strike, which was just over 2 weeks long.
