Does Your Bar Need a Bar Consultant? Yes! Here’s Why
July 26, 2024The Narrow Path to Starting a Liquor Store or Wine Store in BC
August 21, 2024With LCRB bulletin 24-08, BC Liquor & Cannabis Regulation Branch has made changes to private BC liquor store license (Licensee Retail Store) terms allowing for temporary relocation for up to five years while the LRS original location undergoes “significant alterations”. If alterations are not completed within the five year limit, licensees may submit a one-time request to extend the temporary relocation for another two years.
The following information is paraphrased from LCRB Bulletin 24-08:
On August 20, 2024, LRS licensees may apply for temporary relocation if they meet the following conditions:
- Repairs are necessary because of substantial damage from fire, flood, or other events beyond the licensee’s control
- Significant alterations will be made by someone other than the licensee, or
- The licensee intends to make alteration and believes that keeping the store open during alterations is not possible
The temporary location must be a minimum of 1 km from any permanent LRS, the original LRS (hold location), or a BC Liquor Store. Exceptions to the 1km rule may be granted if:
- The distance between the hold location and the temporary location is 250m or less, or
- The temporary location is not closer to any other store (permanent or hold location, a BC Liquor Store, or proposed location) than your LRS hold location, or
- If a body of water results in the distance between the temporary location being less than 1km “as the crow flies” but more than 1km by road from any other store.
LRS licensees may apply for a temporary relocation from the Liquor & Cannabis Licensing Portal. The application cost is $350 and an additional $330 relocation application must be paid when the licensee returns to their original store.
